What you need to know

With their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Blood Ties’, childhood friends Christie Gardner and Helen Dixon have proved themselves a new duo with something special going on. The songs contained within it reflect the life of twenty-somethings in and out of love and luck, with this human element perfectly weighted alongside their arresting harmonies and rich instrumentation.

While informed by a deep understanding and love of folk music, with references to Karen Dalton and Julie Collins a regular occurrence, their music is also modern, in line with the likes of Julia Jacklin, Laura Marling and Mitski. It has drawn praise from publications like Rolling Stone UK, Uncut, The Line of Best Fit, The Times and more whilst also getting spins across BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music where they were recently interviewed by Nathan Shepherd.

Their live show has grown to become a core part of their appeal, becoming a six-piece featuring lapsteel and trumpet alongside the more expected bass and drums. In gig venues their music can explode into raucous, euphoric rapture with surprisingly anthemic singalong moments, but they can also just as easily hold a packed room silent as they fingerpick and harmonise through tender moments. This was evidenced in their recent Sold Out show at The George Tavern in London which was the culmination of their first UK headline tour in support of ‘Blood Ties.’
