Cyber Protect – The Basics is a practical, engaging session designed to help people understand why their data matters, how scams really work, and what simple steps can dramatically improve online safety.
Delivered by West Yorkshire Police Cyber Protect Officer, this session breaks down today’s most common cyber scams and explains how criminals use social engineering, urgency and emotion to catch people out.
✅ Learn how to spot suspicious messages
✅ Understand the psychology behind scams
✅ Protect your accounts, devices and data
✅ Find out what to do if you think you’ve been targeted
✅ Know where and how to report scams to help protect others
Whether you see yourself as cyber‑confident or someone who avoids the jargon, this session is accessible, interactive and relevant to everyday life, both at work and at home.
Many organisations still don’t talk openly about cyber incidents, often through fear of reputational damage or being judged. That silence can give perpetrators greater control and leaves others exposed to the same risks.
To help change that, West Yorkshire Police has developed the Cyber Talking Heads Trilogy. This short series shares real experiences from different sectors to encourage open conversation, improve understanding, and build confidence around cyber security.
The core message is simple: knowledge is our greatest defence. By talking honestly about cyber crime and learning from real situations, organisations can reduce risk, strengthen their cyber capability, and limit the impact of future incidents.

Our Cyber Protect Officer delivers free cyber awareness training for small and medium‑sized businesses. If you would like to find out more or register to access free training for your organisation, please follow the link Cyber Security Training for businesses | West Yorkshire Police
