What you need to know

The 2017 terror attacks at Westminster Bridge, Manchester Arena, London Bridge and Borough Market increased concern for the security of publicly accessible locations.  Although Protect is already one of the four strands of the UK’s Counter-Terrorism Strategy (‘CONTEST’), the Government intends to make compliance with certain elements of Protect a legal requirement.  The resulting ‘Protect Duty’ will require public venues and large organisations to assess the threat from terrorism, and to respond to those assessments by taking appropriate mitigation measures.

This short course will help you and your organisation prepare for the introduction of the Protect Duty by discussing:

- The content of Protect and of the planned Protect Duty;

- Which publicly accessible locations are due to be included, and therefore which organisations and individuals will be required to comply;

- The guidance, advice and training available to help organisations and individuals improve the security of their locations against terror attacks;

- How Protect complements the other three strands of CONTEST (Prevent, Pursue and Prepare).
