What you need to know

Description:

Forests today are fun places to go and explore, but long ago, they were places to be feared, with wondrous creatures lurking in the shadows. Join acclaimed traditional Professional Storyteller and Author, Tom 'the Tale Teller' Phillips, to hear some of these hilarious and exciting family-friendly folk tales from the amazing forests throughout our lands. There could be stories of dragons, witches, hobs, and more, but unless you are there to lend your ear to help the stories come to life, you will never know.

There will also be a chance to buy one of his books, Forest Folk Tales for Children, signed and dedicated on the day, a book in which he has managed to capture all his forest folk tales for all ages to enjoy.

Bio:

TOM PHILLIPS is a professional storyteller who aims to bring traditional stories to young and old. Born and raised in Leicestershire, Tom started working with children from a young age in many settings from scouting to football coaching. He completed a degree in Primary education in 2008 and spent several years teaching across the key stages. During this time, he began storytelling, initially to children and then to adults. Whether telling stories to children in a school or adults at a heritage setting, folk tales are a constant. He has appeared on several podcasts discussing them and, in 2023, led a panel discussion about the importance of folk tales at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. Alongside this, he has written many children’s stories, begun a novel aimed at 8–12-year-olds and contributes to Folklore Thursday, sharing folk tales from around the world. He is the author of Leicestershire Folk Tales for ChildrenForest Folk Tales for Children, and his latest book for adults Unhappily Ever After: A Collection of Unfortunate Folk Tales, all published by The History Press.
