What you need to know

Tewkesbury changed hands at least ten times during the British Civil Wars and this battle (13th April 1643) which was fought three miles north of the town saw a Parliamentarian Army commanded by Sir William Waller clash with a Royalist force under Prince Maurice, nephew of King Charles I. Join us for a guided tour of the battlefield site which has changed little since the 17th century.  Although a relatively small engagement, the battle has many interesting tactical aspects as well as some fascinating participants. We will also be visiting St. Mary’s Church in Ripple, to see the monument to Brigadier Peter Young the renowned Civil War historian and founder of the Sealed Knot re-enactment society, and also the church’s superb collection of 15th century misericords which depict the Labours of the Months.

The walk is approximately 90 minutes - mostly on the flat.

Additional time afterwards if you wish to see the Church too.
