“More Than Stuffing: A Taxidermist’s Journey into a Misunderstood Art”

 

Drawing on personal experience and professional expertise, taxidermist Becky Dick introduces her journey into taxidermy, clarifies the nature of the practice, and reveals the careful processes that define this misunderstood art.

 

Speaker:

Becky Dick - Becky has been doing traditional taxidermy since 2014, trained by professional taxidermist David Keningale in 2014. Additionally, Becky has also had training from specialist World Champion bird taxidermist Carl Church in 2017 and an accredited member of the late George Jamieson in 2020. Further bird taxidermy training, plus moulding and casting with Carl Church in late 2021. And undertook a 3-day taxidermy conservation course taught by Simon Moore in August 2022. Becky is also a member of the UK The Guild of Taxidermists.

Find us by the Abbey in a beautifully restored row of timber framed buildings. The Old Baptist Chapel is located opposite the museum, along a little medieval alleyway.

Car: Take Junction 9 off the M5 and follow the signs to Tewkesbury Abbey.

There are numerous car parks nearby. You may also want to consider a car share.

Rail: The nearest railway station is Ashchurch for Tewkesbury. There is a bus stop a short walk away for the 42 bus will bring you into Tewkesbury.

Bus: As well as the bus that serves the railway station, there is also a regular service from Cheltenham (41) which stops in the Crescent which is almost next to the museum. There is also a bus service from Gloucester (71) which stops in the town centre, which is a short walk away.

Bike: If you cycle to the museum you may leave your bike in our courtyard garden.
