The fate of the Princes in the Tower is one of history’s greatest and most enduring mysteries. The identity of the murderer of these young boys is hotly debated. It is often claimed that they died on the orders of their uncle, King Richard III, the ultimate villain of Shakespeare’s theatrical work. Historian Matt Lewis seeks to examine a different question. What if the Princes in the Tower were not murdered at all in 1483? What if they survived beyond their uncle’s death at the Battle of Bosworth? Piecing together tantalising snippets of contemporary evidence reveals a compelling case not for murder, but for the Survival of the Princes in the Tower.
Matt Lewis is an author and historian of the medieval period. He has written several non-fiction books covering the Wars of the Roses, Richard III and the Princes in the Tower, as well as The Anarchy, Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Henry III. Matt works at History Hit, hosting the Echoes of History podcast, co-hosting the Gone Medieval podcast and presenting documentaries on a variety of subjects. Matt also appears as a contributor in other documentaries and is part of a project to bring an authentic medieval movie telling the story of Richard III to the big screen.
