Jorge Jiménez - Rethinking Bach

What you need to know

Spanish violinist Jorge Jiménez is known for his painstaking and exciting approach, performing music in the style and instruments for which it was composed, from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. He performs Bach’s immortal Cello Suites, in a unique arrangement for violin from 1866.

Jorge Jiménez, on the cello suites:
For most people, the music of Johann Sebastian Bach resonates deeply. It takes its listeners on an immersive journey to the very essence of existence. When you hear the mesmerising Cello Suites, you stand alone as in some unique musical cathedral. You become aware of your own insignificance and are led towards a much greater understanding of your place in the universe.

The Cello Suites form an important part of my personal musical journey and so, after recording my arrangement for unaccompanied violin of Bach’s Goldberg Variations (Pan Classics, 2022), the inevitable next step in my again very personal rethinking of Bach’s works was to explore these Suites further.

Jorge Jiménez's Career:

Considered one of today's most sought-after and eclectic baroque violinists in Europe, He takes pride in his meticulous and exciting approach to music, ensuring that each performance captures the essence of its time and instruments.

He is also the founder and director of the award-winning Early Music ensemble, Tercia Realidad, and concertmaster for renowned ensembles such as L’Arpeggiata, The Hanover Band, Forma Antiqva, La Risonanza, and Capella Cracoviensis. In addition to this, he is a regular guest musical director and soloist at London's Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
