What you need to know

We are delighted to announce for the first time The Bonkers Boxing Day Splash at Hever Castle in support of West Kent Mind.

Wake yourself up on Boxing Day morning by sliding or leaping into the bracing water of the beautiful lake at Hever Castle for a grand entrance and a short swim followed by a hot drink and a Christmas bite.

Reasons to book right now:

  • A life-affirming dip giving you a reason to get out of the house
  • Get the endorphins and the blood flowing
  • Give you bragging rights and a tale for your friends
  • A part of the ticket price will also go to support West Kent Mind*

Mind is the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, and the best known charity for mental health. The goals of Mind are:

Staying well: Support people likely to develop mental health problems, to stay well.

Empowering choice: Empower people who experience a mental health problem to make informed choices about how they live and recover.

Improving services and support: Ensure people get the right services and support at the right time to help their recovery and enable them to live with their mental health problem.

Enabling social participation: Open the doors to people with experience of mental health problems participating fully in society.

Removing inequality of opportunity: Gain equality of treatment for people who experience both mental health and other forms of discrimination.

Organisational excellence: Make the most of our assets by building a culture of excellence.

How does it work?

After a safety briefing, participants will slide or jump into the water at timed intervals and then swim either the 100m 'short' course to the exit ramp or the longer 150m splash round the buoy and back to the ramp.

After your invigorating dip, you will get a hot drink and a Christmas bite.

Swimmers may choose to wear a wetsuit or a brave the water without but if not wearing a wetsuit they must have a tow buoy. Swimmers may go back in if they feel they need *more* invigoration.

For safety, logistics and because of COVID-19 there are (as ever) some rules:

  1. Please arrive at the time indicated to you by email before the swim
  2. Please drive slowly down the drive and park on the hard standing
  3. Swimmers must arrive ready to swim or change at their car
  4. No spectators - unfortunately, we are not able to have groups of spectators as witnesses however, we will have a photographer on hand to record our swimmers for posterity
  5. Please bring a towel or warm clothing down to the lake for before and after your swim
  6. Please remember to stay at least 2m away from others at all times
  7. Please listen to and follow instructions from the swim team
  8. Your ticket permits entry for one participant to swim - there is NO entry to the rest of Hever Castle grounds and gardens and tickets do not allow for a walk in the grounds or round the lake before or afterwards.

Lock down promise: If you are unable to attend because of a change in lock down rules after you book, we will give you a full refund

*25% of proceeds will be donated to mind
