Follow the fascinating journey from flowerbed to fabric in this hands-on natural dyeing workshop.
Begin with a guided tour of Hever’s dye garden, where you will discover the plants traditionally used to create natural colours. Learn about their historical uses, countries of origin, and the significance of different dyes throughout history, including their association with wealth, royalty and social status.
You will then explore the practical side of natural dyeing, learning how to harvest plants and prepare fabric for colour through the process of mordanting.
In the final part of the workshop, put your newfound knowledge into practice by dyeing your own scarf in a colour of your choosing. You will also create additional natural dyes to take home and continue experimenting with. All materials, including your scarf, are provided.
