GINA YASHERE: LAUGH RIOT
BLACK ENTERTAINMENT & COMEDY AWARD WINNER: Best Female - 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2013 and Best DVD: 2013
CHORTLE AWARDS WINNER Best Female Stand Up – 2002
One of the UK’s funniest females, Gina Yashere, returns to her home country from across the pond with her highly-anticipated brand new show and her biggest solo show to date at the Brixton O2 Academy.
A former lift engineer, the multi-award winning comedian is now a true headline act the world over, from Japan to Dubai, Hong Kong to Singapore, Australia to Canada, South Africa to Europe and in America, where she reached the final 10 on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and currently resides.
Laugh Riot will explore it all, Gina-style; her recent move to New York and the ridiculous auditions which made her leave Los Angeles. Her new fear of cats after being terrorized by three super intelligent felines at her friend’s house. Being coughed on, stared at and followed in China, and finding herself in a brothel in Singapore. Gina, as always, has plenty of stories to tell in a way that only Gina can tell them!
After her comedy debut at the Edinburgh Festival in 1996, Gina has gone on to appear on countless TV shows from The Lenny Henry Show to Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Celebrity Fame Academy and, most recently, Don’t Sit in the Front Row and Celebrity Come Dine With Me. She also played a principle role in ITV’s Married Single Other in 2010. Stateside, Gina has guested on American TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Def Comedy Jam , Comics Unleashed, The Rosie O’ Donnell Show and a regular appearance as a crap psychic on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. She has also had her own 1 hour stand up special airing on Showtime.
Her movie credits include Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Mr In Between, and she has starred on the West-End stage in The Vagina Monologues. This summer, Gina played to a 4000 capacity audience at the British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park and to a 26,000 audience at the Invicitus Games Closing Ceremony at the Olympic Park, sharing the stage with the Foo Fighters, Kaiser Chiefs and Prince Harry
After losing 5 stone, Gina released her critically acclaimed DVD Skinny Bitch in 2009 and her most recent DVD, Laughing to America, which was recorded in 2012 in San Francisco to a sold-out audience, is out now on general release in the UK.
