Hushman is the new solo project from Ewan MacPherson, a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with over twenty years of experience in the UK folk /trad music scene. Ewan has toured extensively and collaborated with a number of well-known artists in the British Folk scene and beyond. He was a member of Shooglenifty for thirteen years and co-founded the acclaimed alt-folk trio Salt House. Ewan has also been part of Malinky and Nu-Nordic Quartet Fribo.

Hushman’s debut album was released on the 18th November 2022 on the ever luminous Hudson Records Label and was described by ‘KLOF Mag’ as “…a little masterpiece of confidence and understatement. Wonderful.”   In addition ‘For Folks Sake’ say there is “a rich earthiness that carries all these songs to another level.”  

Hushman allows Ewan to pursue his love of songwriting and Psych/Freak/Alt-folk, his warm voice, relaxed performance style, deft guitar skills and subtle electronics has drawn comparisons to Ben Howard, Sam Amidon, John Martyn, Nick Drake and Richard Thompson.

An ‘Anglo-Celt’ from Liverpool Ewan grew up in Wales and was one of the first intake of LIPA, Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

His music has been featured on various BBC radio stations, with multiple nominations at the MG Alba Scottish Trad Music Awards for his work in different bands and as an instrumentalist. Ewan’s instrumental album Fetch! was recognized as one of Songlines’ ‘Top of the World Albums’ in 2017.

Hushman’s songwriting often explores ambiguous and abstract themes, allowing for personal interpretation. He delves into feelings of disempowerment, societal complexities, and the search for hope in a world that can seem bewildering. He says:

 “…many of my songs work on a variety of different levels, I enjoy the ambiguous and abstract in lyrics which allow for personal interpretation. Often there are strange meanders within my songs which are united with an overarching meaning or feeling. I am interested in the natural world and how we make our way in a society that seems, to many, to be going in the wrong direction. I find myself trying to describe feelings of disempowerment, how society can be so baffling and human decisions astounding and farcical by turns, I try to bring a gentle light to it all and am always looking for hope.”
