Heather Joyce is a singer/songwriter playing an extraordinary duet concertina, known as the Megan – cos it’s all about the bass.
Heather’s songs flow from the traditions of the many other instruments she has played (5-string banjo, medieval harp, saxophones, flutes, clarinets etc…). She weaves acerbic and tender lyrics around soaring melodies.
As a teenager she was one half of anarchist punk duo Toxic Shock, performing with Poisongirls, Nightingales and Chumbawamba, and regularly appearing on the London cabaret circuit. Heather then worked extensively in dance and music theatre, including the RSC, before touring UK folk clubs and festivals. She later joined prestigious French circus Cirque Plume and toured all over Europe.
Now permanently based in France, her new songs are more reflective but no less uplifting; celebrating life, love and the quirky joy of playing a new instrument. Bizzarely, most of her fans are called Mark and this is what they say:
‘Heather’s wonderful, joyous …and odd. Songs that touch your heart and make you smile’ MARK THOMAS
‘I first saw Heather Joyce playing with Toxic Shock in the 80s. My mind was blown – they were amazing and I’m still in awe of her talent.’ MARK KERMODE
Touching, tender, funny, flippant – Heather has an easy, unique way with music and words’ MARK DIACONO
