Together, Erin Turner & Saul Bailey bring new insights to the undiscovered and the well-traversed corners of folk music. Expect warm-humoured audience interaction, bare-faced honesty, and simply good music.
Erin Turner – Vocals, Octave Fiddle, Whistles, Harmonium
Saul Bailey – Diatonic Accordions, English Concertina, Hurdy Gurdy
As well as their mastery of whistle, Erin’s voice is known for both its technical brilliance and raw power. Their extensive work in researching social history and English folk dance has made them influential in the wider ceilidh scene, and forms the basis of their deep understanding and respect for traditional songs. Erin is a natural storyteller and champion of the subversive, sharing narratives that foreground the stories of the marginalised.
Radio 2 Folk Awards nominee Saul Bailey is recognised as one of the UK’s foremost diatonic accordion players, combining sensitivity and intricacy in both tunes and accompaniment. Their style, encompassing melody and rhythm in new ways, respects tradition while moving it forward. Saul has an ear both for discovering un-played gems in the archives and for writing critically acclaimed original tunes, all of which speak for themselves in the hands of “one of the very, very best” (Sam Sweeney).
