What you need to know

Three musicians, three voices and four instruments.

Singer, songwriter and acclaimed harmonica player Grant Dermody’s devotion to the blues naturally leads him in different directions. While his last album, Digging in John’s Backyard, found him collaborating with guitarist Frank Fotusky on a set of songs that paid tribute to John Jackson, a foremost practitioner and proponent of Piedmont blues. For the past 15 years, Dermody has had opportunity to play and record with some of the best in the business, among them, such blues legends Honeyboy Edwards, Robert Lowery, Big Joe Duskin, John Jackson, and John Dee Holeman.

Blues and jazz, like any language, has an accent and vocabulary, some people have these down better than others. Adam Franklin uses the musical vocabulary of acoustic blues with near perfect inflection. A lifetime of intensive listening and four decades of playing underlie his easy rhythmic excellence, which has led to him backing and playing with US artists such as Del Rey, Steve James and Grant Dermody.

Adam regularly tours in Europe and the USA and plays regular shows with his daughter, Elsie Franklin……..

Elsie Franklin sings and plays acoustic country-blues, ragtime and jazz on her trusty National resonator. Based in London, she is a rising talent on the UK blues scene, Elsie is often praised for her authentic, yet unique take on early blues and jazz, drawing influence from legendary female blues artists such as Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith.

This trio met over the years while teaching at Blues Week, run by the Euroblues organisation. Expect plenty of harmonica, guitars, mandolin and harmony antics!
