What you need to know

Corpus Christi Primary School & On the Ball Academy are very excited to host their Black Tie Ball 2023.

Over the past 5 years Corpus Christi Primary has worked hard to develop a state of the art playground for our children, the first of its kind in Glasgow, in a bid to raise attainment and provide our learners with the resources they need and deserve.A large percentage of our children live in disadvantaged and deprived households, with no access to green space. Outdoor play is essential in bone and muscle development, fitness, improving social interaction and in overall happiness. Happy and Healthy children are able to Learn! Our school motto is "We try our best to be the best' and we instil this in our children and their families and believe that they deserve the best.

Now that we have the playground and witness the positive impact that it has on our learners, it is time to ensure that our learners access the wider curriculum. Joining up with a community partner like On the Ball will do just that.
On The Ball Academy aims to develop the extra curricular skills of our. young people. Already they provide our children with coaching during the school day, developing football skills, ambition and resilience. It is their hope to gain a permanent training space and base locally to train their teams but also to give children a safe usable play space outside of school.

ABOUT ON THE BALL:

OTB provides football education services for over 150 kids in the area. We work with many local schools, community projects and education services to remove barriers to children’s participation in sport, and support children to excel in football through high quality and supportive coaching.

In the areas we work, we hear firsthand that cost is the biggest barrier for local children and families to participate in sport. Exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis, children are left playing in derelict spaces and places, unable to access the expensive current facilities on offer locally or join high fee clubs and classes nearby.

OTB are proposing to enhance the green space which exists at the old danes drive bowls site which is situated in Scotstounhill close to kingsway multi-storey flats. We will install and maintain a state of the art 5G football pitch which is suitable for 9 aside football and tailored to grassroots education in particular.

The area in which the facility will be located is in the heart of a community which has suffered from very little investment from public and private funding in recent years and the green space has suffered with overgrown grass, dog fouling, graffiti and vandalism commonplace. Our development will provide local people with an opportunity to develop their sporting potential and be part of an exciting, innovative and welcoming community project that will reduce isolation and improve mental and physical health.

We will upgrade and maintain the current multi-use pitch and install an upgraded 5G pitch which is free for use for the local community 100% of the week.

We will build and maintain a 9 aside football facility which will have charges associated with it. Through fundraising, we will ensure that we have a hybrid payment system for pitch hire, allowing local groups and organisations with little to no income to rent the pitch for beneficiaries and teams at affordable rates.

Through fundraising and partnership working, the sheltered facilities beside the pitch will be further used for community benefit, offering space to local projects and programmes working to meet identified local ward priorities; health and wellbeing; youth employment and supporting young people; vulnerable people and families support; creation of safer and more sustainable communities.
